Most of our sexual abuse prevention activities take place in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This is because sexual abuse is used as a wartime weapon in the civil war that is ravaging the North and South Kivu regions in the east of the country. For over five years, massive abuse has continued to take place, both against adults and children.

 

This is why, since 2008, the Friendly Haven has teamed up with its local partners to give medical and psychological aid to women and children who are victims of sexual abuse, and to human rights activists who suffer persecution. We also help child sexual abuse victims get into the school system. 

 

In Togo, we also pride ourselves in helping protect children against abuse in all its forms. Incidentally, the organization R.A.G.C. (our primary local partner) received the Women’s World Summit Foundation prize in 2006 for its work against child sexual abuse. We fight against child trafficking, especially in regions where children are most vulnerable. We spearhead public awareness campaigns in all age groups, from adults to children. 

 

We would also like to point out the seriousness of what is currently taking place in the DRC, which is rarely reported by the western media.
