// What is the Friendly Haven?

// We are a humanitarian organization.
Created in 2008 and based in the South of France, the Friendly Haven is an N.G.O. that supports local initiatives to help underprivileged children, especially in Togo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It also works for peace, reconciliation, and non-violence.
Whereas small humanitarian organizations in developing countries are often left out of international calls for funding, the Friendly Haven aims to support and tirelessly promote local charitable organizations who have proved their worth and made comprehensive projects for the benefits of children.

// A story of friendship
// Act together with faith!
At the start...a story of friendship between a Togolese philosophy professor working for peace and a young French volunteer working for the organization IFOR (International Fellowship of Reconciliation).
Our beginnings: just after the civil war that devastated Togo in 2006, we were two dreamers who met and shared a common desire to change things—even if we had to start from the basis.
In 2008, this friendship gave birth to the Friendly Haven organization, founded by Yves-Mathieu Amewu and Bénédicte-Fleur Vappereau. “In the beginning, we didn’t have a single cent, but we did have high hopes!” she says. “More than anything else, we wanted to help children and foster peace,” he adds.
Five years later: an orphanage is on the verge of opening its doors, more than 300 children have been sponsored, and 70 widows have benefited from income-generating programs.
Our credo has always been to work together with faith, strength, and determination. Friendship and trust have been our strength.

In 2015, the Maison des Amis will continue its work in DR Congo in the fight against sexual violence alongside new partners and with the help of the Swiss NGO Vivere.
